Am I suitable for Laser Hair Removal?

Absolutely – the majority of people are suitable for Laser Hair Removal Treatments. Laser light is attracted to dark hair follicles and therefore the darker the hair follicle, the more likely it is to reduce your unwanted hair. The only exception is for those with blonde, red or white hair whereby Laser Hair Removal Treatments will not work at all.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser Hair Removal is suitable for both men and women, and more people are discovering the benefits of laser hair removal every day. More than 70% of males and 85% of females now use laser hair removal with a success rate of 85-99% permanent hair reduction after just 6 to 10 treatments. The Alexandrite and ND:YAG technology exposes your hair follicles to pulses of laser light destroying their ability to regrow, and significantly removing your unwanted hair.

How does Laser Hair Removal compare to other hair removal treatments?

Traditional hair removal methods include shaving, waxing, plucking and depilatory creams. These are only temporary fixes that are often inconvenient, painful, and irritating to the skin. Waxing is painful and can damage the surface of your skin. Depilatory creams are quite toxic and work by changing the chemical makeup of the hair. This means that the hair falls out easily, but will regrow quickly as it has had no effect on the hair follicle. The Gentlelase, GentleMax Pro and ND:YAG laser provides gentle, non-invasive, chemical free, and long-lasting solutions to remove unwanted hair on any body area.

What do I need to do to prepare?

If you have been bleaching your hair, you will need to allow the normal colour to regrow before proceeding with laser. Otherwise there is no preparation required, other than shaving the area the night before, and avoid using deodorants and other skin products on the area on the day of your treatment.

What happens in a laser hair removal treatment?

Laser Hair Removal is a very safe procedure, that is customised according to your specific skin type and hair colour. Our laser technicians will shave away any hair above the surface of the skin. The device handpiece is moved over the treatment area, emitting light-based energy in short pulses. The condensed light will heat the hair to a point that will affect its ability to regrow. Hair that is hidden beneath the skin at the time of treatment will shed over the next week or two.

Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?

Laser Hair Removal is virtually painless and is a much more pleasant treatment experience than waxing, tweezing, and electrolysis, which are much more aggressive and damaging to the skin. You may feel a short burst of heat as the condensed light reaches your hair follicles, and some people describe the sensation as a tingling or a slight pinching sensation. Results Laser Clinic laser equipment features Air Cooling Compatible (ACC) which directs high air flow at the treatment area during treatment to counteract and cool the targeted area during treatment.

How long will the procedure take?

The initial treatment can take as little as 5 minutes to over an hour depending on the size of the area being targeted. You will be given an approximate treatment time by our qualified staff when booking your appointment. However, the majority of treatments take less than 20 minutes, and people return to their lives immediately after treatment with no downtime.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments depends on your specific skin type and colour, the thickness and density of hair, and the size of the treatment area. On average, 6 and 10 treatments will result in 85-99% hair reduction.

How long should I wait between sessions?

Your hair will regrow after scheduled Laser Hair Removal sessions. We recommend scheduling your appointments 4 to 6 weeks apart. After each treatment your hair will regrow thinner and softer and with less area coverage than before.

Can all hair be treated?

Laser Hair Removal is limited only by hair colour. The technology uses the hair pigment to transfer heat into the hair follicles beneath the skin. Treatments are proven to be effective on any hair with at least some pigment. This includes a wide range of hair colours, from auburn to brown and dark black hair. Unfortunately, the effective treatment of white and light blond hairs is limited due to their lack of pigment.

What is GentleLASE, GentleMax Pro and ND:YAG technology?

All systems use the latest generation Alexandrite laser, which operate at the wavelength best absorbed by both the hair shaft and the hair follicle. They successfully destroy the follicles ability to regrow, while protecting the skin and surrounding tissue from heat damage. Studies show that both technologies are successful methods for permanent hair reduction, and have numerous published studies in professional medical journals attesting to the GentleLASE, GentleMax Pro and ND-YAG system’s safety and long-term effectiveness.

The GentleLASE and GentleMax Pro systems uses a long-pulsed high energy Alexandrite laser to emit a gentle beam of light which passes through the skin, transferring heat down the hair shaft to the hair follicle. The ND-YAG employs a similar technology to directly target the hair follicle and destroying its capacity for regrowth.

The energy pulse of all systems heat the hair and damage the hair follicle without affecting surrounding skin, causing the hair to fall out and to not grow back for some length of time. Most hairs do not grow back, with permanent hair reduction after several treatments. The GentleLASE system also incorporates state of the art Dynamic Cooling Device technology where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin to ensure the safety of the surrounding tissue, ensuring the maximum effectiveness of the treatment, minimal discomfort, and can be adjusted for different hair and skin types and colours. The GentleMax Pro uses a Zimmer machine to cool the skin, and therefore doesn’t require any cryogen gas sprayed onto the skin.

Detailed Scientific Studies show both systems have been proven effective on a wide range of hair colours, from auburn to brown and dark black hair, and on all skin types — from porcelain white through olive to dark brown complexions. Hair can be treated on any part of the body no matter how deep the follicles may reside. There is minimal discomfort, so treating sensitive areas like the lips, nose, ears, bikini and underarms can usually be tolerated easily.

The key advantage of the GentleLASE, GentleMaz Pro and ND:YAG system’s are its large paddles that eradication more hair in less time, zapping up to 200 hairs at a time — perfect for backs chests and legs. At the same time, the , GentleMax Pro and ND-YAG can be very precisely focused to eliminate hair from smaller areas such as the nose, ears and face and bikini area.

Typically, each require multiple treatment sessions to eradicate unwanted hair. The success of the GentleLASE, GentleMax Pro and ND-YAG have been tested in numerous clinical trials, across hundreds of patients with a wide range of skin types and hair colours.

Are there any after effects or risks I need to be aware of?

Laser Hair Removal will not damage your skin, if you are being treated by good quality technology and by a qualified therapist. After effects are minimal with only slight swelling and pinkness to sensitive skins, which usually fades in a few minutes depending on your skin type. However, it is still important to follow post and aftercare advice stringently. And please inform us of any contradictions and deviations you have made to your aftercare plan.

When will I see the results of the treatment?

The results of Laser Hair Removal is instantaneous. From your very first session you will leave with silky smooth skin. After a few weeks, you will notice the hair regrowing, however this will be fewer, finer and weaker than before treatment, and you will notice further improvement with every treatment. Scientific studies show that the use of targeted, light-based energy permanently destroys hair follicles at the cellular level. Each subsequent Laser Hair Removal treatment will result in a significant reduction in regrowth in the treatment area.

Why do I have a problem with excess hair?

Nine times out of ten, excess body or facial hair is the result of hereditary factors. For many, puberty can bring the onset of unwanted hair, while in others menopause, age or pregnancy is the culprit. Shaving will cause your unwanted hair to grow back thicker, darker and stronger. Laser Hair Removal is really the only hair removal solution that will systematically and painlessly eradicate your unwanted hair at the follicle.
